| I am sick of crazy postseason plans for teams...so I decided to make an even crazier one. I think the mets are going to be a very good team again next year, but they may be a puzzle piece or two away from winning the whole thing. I'm going to assume that the bullpen will include Heilman, Bradford and a somewhat healthy Duaner, and that all of the major position players will remain the same.
The first step will be to bring back Glavine at a reasonable rate. Follow that up with opening the pocket book for Matsuzaka. If the yankees outbid us for him then we move to Zito.
For second base we go cheap. Maybe Valentin, maybe Adam Kennedy. All I want is a solid player. no all-star necessary.
Now we get loony. In left field....drum roll please.....Barry Bonds. Its so crazy it might work. A washed up Barry is still better than any other option out there. Sign him for a one year deal. Trot him out for 100 games and have Milledge play the rest and be his defensive substitute. He may be an asshole, but he still had a .454 OBP and hit 26 homers in 300 at bats. It is a bargain.
Now we make another interesting move. Sign Eric Gagne, who was just cut loose by the dodgers. We have the money to take on these projects. If he can get back anywhere close to his old form we would have the most dominating bullpen ever.
Just a few crazy thoughts running through my head. I have always liked Barry though, and he gets way too much shit from fans. I think it could work...but I doubt it happens.
